Cash for vote: I-T sets up control room to monitor malpractice

To crack down on the use of black money in state polls, the Income Tax (I-T) department has begun a 24x7 control room and complaint monitoring cell. Citizens can alert the authorities about cash for vote malpractices on toll free numbers 1800220115 and 022-22635511/ 22627275.

According Election Commission guidelines, any person carrying large sums of cash or bullion for personal, business or any other reasons, till the model code of conduct is in force, must carry proof of his identity, PAN card, address proof, documentary evidence regarding the source of cash or bullion.

Once they receive information in this regard, I-T officials will probe the cases and shall seize the cash or bullion if no satisfactory explanation is furnished by the carrier.
