A case has been registered against three crew members of the SpiceJet for allegedly assaulting and misbehaving with passengers on Wednesday.

Karan Lalit Ambardar, who works in a media firm as a sports anchor, has registered an FIR at the Airport Police Station against a flight attendant and two security personnel of SpiceJet.

According to police, the incident took place on the Delhi-Mumbai flight on March 1, during which he had an argument with the flight staff over the food. The argument allegedly led to threats by the staff of the plane. When the flight landed in Mumbai, the security of the flight allegedly manhandled and assaulted him.

According to complaint filed by Ambardas, the staff allegedly threatened him after which the staff informed the pilot of that matter. The pilot informed the security who, on reaching Mumbai, manhandled him and took him into a room where two security personnel assaulted and threatened him.

Meanwhile, SpiceJet has rejected the allegations made by the passenger of misbehaving and threatening him and issued a statement that the passenger not only misbehaved with crew and co-passengers but also threatened to call the media boasting of his media background.

“The passenger had purchased SpiceMax seats at the airport at the time of check-in and hence pre-booking his meal of choice, which is mandatory at least 24 hours before actual flight time, was not possible. The passenger wanted a chicken tikka masala meal which was not the meal of the day on board as also specified on the menu card and hence, was offered chicken methi malai which was the meal of the day. He, however, started shouting because he was not given the meal of his choice. This is when a senior crew member intervened but the passenger continued shouting and was not ready to listen,” said SpiceJet, in a statement.

“Additionally the passenger used unparliamentary and abusive language and threatened the crew member of dire consequences. At this point, the crew informed the pilot-in-command about the situation as per our safety standard operating procedures. The PIC informed the security officials at the Mumbai airport about the situation on board. On arrival at Mumbai Airport, the passenger started obstructing the flight operations and threatened to call the media boasting his media background,” it added.

Assistant Police Inspector of Airport Police Station S Gangawane said, "We have registered the case under relevant sections and are inquiring about the matter, we will take necessary action after recording the statements of co-passengers and the accused. Our investigation is going on."
