The Mahim police have registered a case of abetment of suicide against the vice principal of Saraswati Vidya Mandir School in Mahim (W), in connection with the suicide of the 16-year-old boy Dipesh Teke, who was accused of stealing a sport certificate, which he denied it.

Teke, who had given his class IX exams recently, had jumped in front of a Dahanu-Dadar local around 4.30pm on Monday. He had called his mother a few minutes before the incident and told her he was going to commit suicide.

While the Mumbai Central railway police registered a case of accidental death, the father of the deceased was asked to go to the Mahim police to lodge a case of abetment of suicide.

The Mahim police, who have lodged the case, will now be transferring it to the Mumbai Central railway police as the incident had occurred in their jurisdiction. While the case is being shuttled between two police stations, as per the law, it should have been the Mumbai Central railway police that should have lodged the complaint irrespective of where the incident occurred.

In the Anuhya Esther murder case also, the father of the deceased was made to run from one police station to another. Esther's father, who had first approached the Kurla railway police, was asked to go back to Vijaywada police in Hyderabad, to register a missing case of his daughter. After he did that and returned, the Kurla police merely filed a missing case, instead of cognizable case. After this, he was made to run to several police stations across Mumbai.

Rajendra Trivedi, a senior inspector of Mumbai Central railway police, confirmed that the case of abetment of suicide has been registered and transferred to them. Kishore Teke, father of Dipesh, in his statement to the police, said that there were five boys including his son, who were accused of stealing sport certificate. The vice principal called the parents of all the five and asked them for a written apology and also asked to leave voluntarily or their children will be rusticated from the school. While the father of the two boys agreed to write the letter, Kishore told his son to draft the letter, which he said he would sign later. "My son told me that he was not involved but we did not have any option. I left following that as we had to attend the wedding," the statement read.

Following this incident Dipesh committed suicide.
