The Kandivli police have arrested a 39-year-old carpenter for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor residing in his neighbourhood. The accused was arrested after the victim confided to her parents about the incident, upon which they approached the police.
According to the Kandivli police, the girl, who lives in the same neighbourhood as the accused, would often visit his house along with other children of the area, to watch television.
On November 4, at around 5:30 pm, the minor went alone to the accused's house. "The accused took advantage of the situation and bolted the house from inside. He proceeded to molest and sexually abuse her", said an officer from Kandivli police station.
He added:"After some time, the girl ran home and narrated the incident to her parents, after which they approached the police and registered an FIR."
On Friday, the Kandivli police arrested the accused and booked him under IPC sections 354, 376. as well as section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
The police informed that the accused wife and kids live back at their native place, while he was living with his brother in Kandivli.
