Car owner requested youths to postpone Goa trip, but they refused

The SUV in which eight city youths from Vile Parle were traveling was supposed to be taken for a trip to Shirdi, but the youths convinced car owner to allow them to go for a trip to Goa and later the SUV met with an accident killing seven persons at Ratnagiri. The lone survivor who is admitted at Sion hospital had lost his father four months back.

The lone survivor who is admitted at Sion hospital had lost his father four months back.

Sachin Sawant, 31, Prashant Gurav, 31, Akshay Kerkar, 24, Nihal Kotian, 22, Kedar Todkar, 25, Vaibhav Manve, 32 and Mayur Belekar, 25 died in accident which took place on Wednesday morning when the car- Xylo reached Khanu village near Ratnagiri, the driver lost control over the vehicle and rammed into a tree. On Thursday, the locals carried out their last rites together at Parsiwada Smashan Bhoomi at 10 am. Several well wishers gathered from the locality to pay their respect to the departed souls.

The locals where survivor Abhishek Kambli stays stated that they would bear his medical expenditure since Kambli had lost his father four months ago. "We have not yet informed Kambli’s mother about him having met with an accident as his mother has been in trauma after loss of her husband," said one of Kambli’s neighbours.

Kotian who had recently bagged a job was excited for the trip. "Three more persons had planned to join them in the trip but had backed out at the last moment", said a neighbhour.

Kerkar’s father had planned to leave for Shirdi with his friend and had asked the youths not to take the car for Goa trip. Arun Patel, a close family friend of Kerkars said, "We had planned the trip with Kerkar's father for Shirdi on Wednesday but the youths were very adamant and they managed to convince us and took away the car for the trip."

Kambli, after gaining consciousness asked his relative and doctors about his friends travelling with him in the SUV. "When he gained consciousness he asked about his friends and was inquiring about them, but we have told him that they are at home and all are well", said Kambli’s friend Mahesh More.
