Alka Puneware, a Thane-based actress, has been missing since Thursday. The Kopri police, who have registered a missing person’s complaint and launched a search, said that the actress was heading towards Uran and her car was found in a mangled state at Khopoli.

Puneware resides at Swastik Park in Brahmand along with her children and her husband, a retired Army officer.

Alka’s brother Anil Mishra said, “My brother-in-law told me that she was going to Uran and from there she was scheduled to go Chinchwad and Ratnagiri and then to Chennai. He also said that he had a conversation with the Khopoli police who said it is impossible to believe that her car would fall into the gorge from that spot. It could be a case of kidnapping or robbing.”

Punewar said he had gone and met the Khopoli police and visited the spot. He added that it could not have been a case of accident as no traces of blood was found at the spot. “I really don’t know what has happened to her. I did not receive any ransom call and hence I don’t suspect it to be a case of kidnapping but it could be a case of robbery,” he added. To substantiate his suspicion, he said that her phone, which was recovered from the spot, did not have have the sim card and the memory card in it.

Residents from the area inform that Alka is a person who kept herself aloof. Maeem Sayeed, a resident of her society, said: “There are many actors who reside in the area but they all are busy with themselves and hardly find the time to interact with others. We don’t know much about Alka as she doesn’t talk to people much.”
