Call centre employee dies after falling off bike

A 23-year-old call centre employee died in Malad West after falling off a bike on Thursday night. The police suspect the deceased was riding pillion and the unidentified biker had fled the scene after the accident. The Bangur Nagar police have registered a case of rash driving and causing death due to negligence against the unidentified biker.

The deceased, Dimpy Patel, a resident of Mira Road, had gone to Evershine Nagar in Malad West for a dinner party with a few friends. According to the statement made by her friends, Patel left with a youth she had met at the venue. He had offered to drop her home. Dimpy Patel worked in a call centre in Powai.

An officer of Bangur Nagar police said: "When her friends reached a spot near Ryan School around 10:30pm, they saw a crowd and stopped. When they went to check, they found Patel lying in a pool of blood. She was immediately rushed to a hospital in Kandivli. But she was declared 'dead before arrival'."

According to eyewitnesses, the bike on which Patel was travelling rammed into a divider and she fell off due to the impact. Following this the rider fled the scene on his bike.

"We are yet to ascertain the identity of the accused. We are questioning eyewitnesses and Patel's friends to get a concrete lead on his identity. The accused is not known to Patel's friends. We are also gathering CCTV footage," said the officer.

Truck mows down 45-year-old
A 45-year-old man died after a speeding truck ran over him in Borivli East on Friday morning. The deceased, Umesh Oresi, was crossing the road in Rajendra Nagar area around 4:30am when the truck carrying food grains mowed him down. Oresi was rushed to the hospital where he was declared 'dead before arrival'. The truck driver, Shabbar Ali, later surrendered before the Kasturba Marg police, who arrested him for causing death due to rash and negligent driving.
