​Cabbie held for molesting Aussie woman in Colaba

A 30-year-old taxi driver, identified as Ziyul Ansari, was arrested by Colaba police on Friday for allegedly molesting a 20-year-old Australian national. The woman was in the city for an internship programme in Chembur, and was staying at a hostel in Colaba. The accused was arrested and produced before the Esplanade court in Azad Maidan on Saturday, and was remanded in police custody till January 31.

Vijay Dhopavkar, Senior Police Inspector of Colaba police station said, "The victim was molested on two different occasions by the same taxi driver. In the first instance, the victim boarded the taxi from Colaba to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus. She was seated in the front. During the taxi ride, Ansari touched her inappropriately. She did not pay heed to his advances. In a strange coincidence, she boarded the same cab later that day, without being aware that the taxi driver was the same. This time, Ansari passed inappropriate comments and tried touching her again. The victim immediately got off the taxi, took a photograph of the licence plate and lodged a complaint with us."

The accused was booked for molestation under the IPC.
