The Azad Maidan police recently arrested a chartered accountant (CA), Arvind Asaram Upadhyay, for allegedly duping three persons of Rs 5 lakh by inducing them to invest in a land and assuring them that they would get attractive returns on the investment. Upadhyay is a resident of Ramdev Park in Mira-Bhayander.
According to the police, Upadhyay and his wife, Santoshi, had induced people known to them to invest money on a piece of land in Thane, assuring them that they would get high returns on their investment. Falling prey to their machinations, three people—Manoj Pathak, Omprakash Dixit and Rajnath Dubey—invested Rs 5 lakh in the scheme.
"Later, when the three of them realised that Upadhyay had duped them, they approached the police and got a case of cheating registered against Upadhyay and his wife. Upadhyay also has cases registered against him at Samta Nagar and LT Marg police stations," said an officer from Azad Maidan police station.
