Businessman held for using unregistered imported bikes

The businessman was identified as Amjad Bakali, a resident of Shahriyar Baug Compound in Dongri.

The city crime branch sleuths on Friday arrested a businessman for allegedly using imported bikes not registered with the Regional Transport Office (RTO). Two bikes worth Rs2 lakh each were also seized from his possession.

The businessman was identified as Amjad Bakali, a resident of Shahriyar Baug Compound in Dongri. According to police sources, Bakali is in the business of selling electronic toys. "We received information that Bakali is in the possession of a few imported motorcycles, which are not registered with the RTO. The said bikes were being using by putting up bogus registration number plates," said a crime branch officer, requesting anonymity.

He added, the police picked up Bakali for questioning on Friday and it was revealed that he had imported two bikes from abroad, which were not registered with the RTO. "We have seized the two bikes. We suspect he got the bikes smuggled. We are also probing whether he has got imported bikes in the city on other occasions," the officer said. Bakali will be in the police custody till Monday.
