After the Mumbai Fire Brigade and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) issued notices to several eateries in the city for flouting fire and other safety norms, DNA surveyed a few of them to see if any changes have been made. We found out that brisk business continues at these places in the midst of blatant violations that were red-flagged by the authorities.

A Chinese eatery in Kurla, Khan's Flavour, operates from premises hardly 200 square feet across and encroaches upon the footpath. During a demolition drive, the BMC issued a notice to it as the shop did not have a legal trade licence to prepare food on the footpath. Furthermore, the shop is located along the crowded New Mill Road in Kurla West, and obstructs vehicular movement and risks pedestrians. The eatery was found flouting the Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Life Safety Measures Rules, 2009 .

The MFB team had found that Ashirwad Restaurant and Bar in Dadar (East), along the busy BR Ambedkar Road, was illegally using space in the back under a cover. DNA's visit to the establishment revealed that its approach was too narrow for a fire brigade and there was no fire-exit signage.
