The Prime Minister's office (PMO) has expressed displeasure over Maharashtra government's indecisiveness in allotting space for the terminal of the proposed Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train.

The PMO, by pointing out the importance of the ambitious bullet train project, has mentioned in its letter to the Chief Minister's office that it is not a good situation that the project is not moving forward.

After receiving the letter 3-4 days ago, a meeting has been called regarding the bullet train, on Monday. It is likely the state government would expedite the decision of finalising land for the terminal of the proposed bullet train in this meeting.

The Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train is the Prime Minister's pet project. He is keen on inviting Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to lay the foundation of the project in Ahmedabad in September. It is important for the state of Gujarat as it would be heading into Assembly elections in December, and it would not be possible to make any announcement once code of conduct is imposed in the state.

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has told officials of High Speed Railway Corporation that they should opt for alternative land in one corner of Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), or look for alternative land at Lokmanya Tilak Terminal or at Dharavi. MMRDA has recently taken a decision to earmark 50.31 hectares of land at BKC for the proposed International Financial Services Center (IFSC).

An official from the CM's office told DNA that the entire plan for IFSC, multi-metro station and bullet train is ready and all objections from the airport authority and other agencies would be allayed in due course of time. Sources in Mantralay and Chief Minister's office told DNA that Fadnavis is keen on availing sanctions for a high speed train between Mumbai and Nagpur, while allotting space for the bullet train terminal, as the bullet train would benefit Gujarat more than Maharashtra.

CM Devendra Fadnavis refused to provide land below the IFSC and options of lands at Dharavi and Lokmanya Tilak Terminal were proposed during the meeting on August 24. Fadnavis, along with Ministers Chandrakant Patil, Vinod Tawde and Diwakar Raote were present at the meeting. The CM is heading the Cabinet sub-committee, which was appointed to study the bullet train proposal. He, along with these ministers, would be discussing the project with High Speed Railway Corporation officials during their second joint meeting to be held on Monday.
