Elderly couple charred to death at Thane building fire

A major fire broke out in Thane in the wee hours of Sunday morning. The incident occured at Gulmohur building in Sunderban Park of Thane. The cause of the fire, which started around 5.30 am is yet to be ascertained. 

After the reports, ten fire engines were rushed to the spot to douse the fire, which broke out on the 9th and 10ths floor of the building, according to sources. 

Police say two people have died as they could not escape the fire and were charred to death. Rescue efforts were on to bring others to safety. The fire has now been brought under control.

The deceased were an elderly couple, Shivajirao Chougule (84) and his wife Nirmala (78), the police said.

Two others, the deceased couple's daughter Ranjana Save (50) and her son Vikramaditya were rescued by firemen through a window. taking cover at the parapets. standing on to the parapets.
