Taking the e-challan system a step further, the Mumbai Traffic Police (MTP) for the convenience of Mumbaikars have started sending messages to a database of 50,00,000 motorists requesting them to download the MTP app, update their details and proactively check if they have been booked for traffic violation. This decision was taken after motorists were confused and complained about the e-challan paying system.

However, bugs in the app are making it difficult for users to register or update their details. The MTP app which was launched on October 6, 2016, and has garnered attention from over 1.5 lakh people who have downloaded and registered complaints on the app.

Over 15,000 complaints have been registered so far. The most number of complaints have been registered about no parking, double parking, bus stop parking and riding without helmet.

While the response was exceptional, the app in itself is not attracting much users. Even though the MTP sent out messages to 50 lakh people, it ended up creating a lot of confusion among users. Several people in the past couple of weeks have taken a dig at the app on twitter as well as on the app review page.

However, Milind Bharambe, Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic said, "Yes, it is true that there was a problem. This was because the server was heavily loaded. Nonetheless, it is getting resolved and the app will function properly in the coming days."
