The brother-sister duo has been identified as Arti Patlekar (27) and Sudarshan Patlekar (30).
Vile Parle police on Monday arrested a brother-sister duo for allegedly manhandling a female police personnel after she stopped their vehicle in order to fine the rider for riding without a helmet on. This is the fourth such incident in the recent times in the city. Last month, traffic police constable Vilas Shinde was allegedly killed by the brother of a juvenile two-wheeler rider, who was riding without a helmet on.
The brother-sister duo has been identified as Arti Patlekar (27) and Sudarshan Patlekar (30).
According to the police, Priyanka Khot, who is posted with Vile Parle police, was deployed on nakabandi and bandobast duty in Vile Parle East on Monday.
"Khot spotted a woman riding a two-wheeler without wearing a helmet and signalled her to stop. Khot then asked Arti to pay the fine for traffic rule violation. Arti entered into a verbal spat with Khot then manhandled her. Other policemen present at the spot intervened and resolved the matter. Sudarshan too abused the policemen present at the spot," said an officer from Vile Parle police station.
He added that the brother-sister duo was brought to the police station and a case was registered against them. They were later placed under arrest in the said case.
On September 1, traffic police constable Devidas Nimbalkar, who was on duty in the VB Nagar area in Kurla, was rammed into by a two-wheeler rider when he signalled the him to stop for not wearing a helmet. Nimbalkar had sustained minor injuries. Later, on same day, Colaba police had registered a case against two men from Amravati for allegedly manhandling traffic constable Rajendra Pawar while discharged duty.
