After the Standing Committee's criticism of the civic administration last week, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced to fill 380 posts in the department of the Municipal Chief Accountant (MCA).

According to a release issued by the administration, BMC will be opening internal promotions and direct recruitments in the coming days. Last week, Standing Committee chairman Yashodhar Phanse validated a point of order raised by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) group leader Sandeep Deshpande, in the BMC House, over the 380-plus posts in the MCA lying vacant for the last three years.

According to the point raised, the civic body moved a circular on the MCA department and its operation. As per section 78 (B) of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation (MC) Act of 1888, however, the municipal audit section comes under the wing of the Standing Committee.

Additional municipal commissioner Sanjay Mukherjee said, "The administration has decided to cancel the circular, dated January 5, 2012, which was been kept in abeyance for a few years now. With this, MCA posts will be filled as per law and merit."
