Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation finally razes Khar cow shed

In a major victory for Khar residents, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has demolished a cow shed on 4th road in Khar (W) on Monday.

This comes after several years of follow-up by the residents with the civic body.

“We have to move carefully due to the cows on the road. The cows would stand in the middle of the road, blocking traffic,” said Surindra Khubchandani, a resident.

Anandini Thakoor, chairperson of H West federation, said, “The cows will gather at the shed in the evening. Despite many complaints, ward officials did not take any action over the years. We are now happy that the ward office has finally demolished it.”

Thakoor added that many incidents of cows knocking senior citizens, women and children have been reported in the past. “Now, we will take up the issue of removing the cattle from the area,” Thakoor said.

Alka Kerkar, a BJP corporator, who is helping the residents, said, “We will make sure that the ward office removes the cattle from the area, which is causing a lot of nuisance.”

Officials from H (West) ward office said it will initiate action with the cattle pound department.
