A day after an electric inspector in the Industries, Energy and Labour department was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs5 lakh from a person, the ACB conducted a raid at the residence of the accused in Borivli.

The officials have recovered fixed deposit documents worth Rs48.5 lakh, bank documents worth Rs38.13 lakh, insurance documents worth Rs8.51 lakh and Rs16,850 in cash. Investigations have also revealed that the accused owns three flats and one shop in the city.

Sandhya Pol, 50, had demanded Rs5 lakh from the complainant, who runs a liaisoning company and was in charge of the wiring work in two buildings in Prabhadevi. The ACB has also arrested Ajit Kadam, 40, junior clerk in the department, for being an accomplice to Pol.

"The complainant had approached Pol for an NOC for the electrical work. However, Pol demanded Rs5,000 per flat, with the total number of flats being 100," said an ACB officer.

The complainant approached the ACB. A trap was laid at the office of the accused in BEST compound, Mumbai Central, and Pol was caught red-handed.
