Bribery case: IPS officer stays off radar, aide produced at court

The Indian Police Service (IPS) officer who was booked in an alleged bribery case on Tuesday continued to stay off radar of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). Police sources claimed that the IPS officer's phone had been switched off and his whereabouts were not known.

The complainant, a transporter by profession, alleged that IPS officer G Vijay Krishnan Yadav — who was then posted as a probationary Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) in Amravati — and his suspected aide Sunny Singh Bugai (34) had allegedly demanded bribe from the complainant after a case of theft was registered against him at the Tivasa Police Station at Amravati.

Officer Yadav and his aide had asked for money for not arresting and diluting charges against the complainant while presenting him before the court. The bribe was to be paid in three instalments.

"The victim had paid him the money then, but Yadav demanded more money. The victim then lodged a complaint with the ACB, which laid a trap on Tuesday and caught Bugai while accepting Rs 1 lakh as an instalment. Bugai claimed that he had accepted the bribe at the behest of Yadav," said an ACB official.

"Yadav's mobile phone is switched off and his location and whereabouts are not known... Our probe has revealed that Yadav had made several phone calls to the complainant," he said.
