You can find Ironman, Batman and even Shaktiman at the fourth edition of Mumbai Film and Comic Con which is being held from December 19 to 21 at the Bombay Exhibition Centre in Goregaon (East).

With appearances from Mark Gatiss, the actor and co-creator of British superhit television series Sherlock, and Steven Moffat, the co-writer of Dr Who, the comic con boasts of one of a kind experiential zone for Star Wars as well. The zone is designed to resemble the bridge of a star destroyer with a futuristic display, equipped with Star Wars weapons, character figurines and inspired art.

"The comic con is a mix of exhibition and entertainment. It's not just restricted to comic books but includes films, television series and gaming as well. There is something for everyone — merchandise, toys and workshops, panels and tons of activities over three days. It's people who share the same passion coming together at a single place and celebrating their geekiness and nerdiness. it's the biggest convention we have ever done in the last four years and we are expecting more than 30,000 people," said Jatin Varma, the founder of Comic Con India.

After making stops at Delhi, Bangalore and Hyderabad, the comic con in Mumbai will see a pop culture explosion. Publishing houses like Amar Chitra Katha, Tinkle and Raj Comics will be present, besides Marvel and DC. The cosplay competition will see people dressed up in the costumes of their favourite characters from comic books/graphic novels, animated series/movie, manga/anime, sci-fi/fantasy and gaming categories. The winners will get a trip to the Oz Comic Con in Sydney, Australia.

There will also be a screening of Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special — An Adventure In Space & Time. Besides, international guests like Nick Spencer, Dan Goldman and Nicolas Wild will be present. Dibakar Banerjee and Rana Daggubati will be present with the Telugu VFX film Bahubali.

Kingdom of Calm is an art collective which will be selling their art at the convention alongside 125 exhibitors. "When we were kids, it was difficult to source comic books and toys. With the comic con, everything is available at one space and people don't have to buy from abroad. Many people have left their day jobs to make something out of their hobbies and it's a great opportunity for small and medium companies trying to go mainstream. It's good for the 'Make in India' policy too as there is a big market for it in the country," said Mustafa Rasool and Ayush Saran, founders of Kingdom of Calm.

Sonia Thomas is a huge Sherlock fan and can't wait for the session with Mark Gatiss. "It feels good that people who create such shows consider us as a fan base and are coming here to interact with us. It's something else to discuss your favourite show with people who will actually add to the conversation. We will get to dispel rumours and speculations around the show and maybe even get future plot points. Apart from international appeal, our local comics and artists and writers get to show their work that we are not aware of. It feels good that something like this exists in India," said Thomas who attended the convention last year.
