In a shocking incident at Andheri, an eight-year-old boy was stripped naked and tied to a tree by his mother as a punishment for bunking school on Monday morning. Later, the Juhu police rescued him after a person noticed the boy from his window and alerted the police on Twitter.

According to the police, the social media team of Juhu police station received an alert from Nishit Mehta who tweeted a photo of the boy at the Mumbai police’s twitter handle.

“I would like to report an incident of child abuse. A boy has been tied up with a tree and crying since half hour. Some 2 to 3 people are irritating him. He has been stripped off his clothes,” Mehta tweeted.

Afterwards, the police rushed to the spot. When the police visited the spot— a slum pocket near Andheri fire brigade, visible from Mehta’s building — they discovered that an eight-year-old boy had been tied to the tree as a punishment for bunking school by his mother and elder brother.

The police said that the boy’s father had passed away and his mother worked as a domestic help. The mother wanted her two sons to study hard so that they would be financially secure in the future.

“The boy would bunk school frequently, which would make his mother angry. On Monday, the boy bunked school again, and hence she punished him, We have conducted medical test for the boy. Fortunately, he did not sustain any major injury on his body.”said a police officer from Juhu police station.

The police freed the mother with a strict warning against using such extreme methods for punishing her children.

“The mother apologized and promised that she will take care of him and would not punish him in such manner,” he added.
