Bookies caught red-handed accepting bets on Australia vs Sri Lanka World Cup match

Six bookies were arrested by the Social Service Branch (SSB) of the city police in two different raids on Sunday. They were found accepting bets on the Australia vs Sri Lanka match of the cricket World Cup. The police have also seized betting material from them.

Six bookies were arrested by the Social Service Branch (SSB) of the city police in two different raids on Sunday. They were found accepting bets on the Australia vs Sri Lanka match of the cricket World Cup. The police have also seized betting material from them.

According to the deputy commissioner of police, enforcement, Pravin Patil, specific information was received by them that bets are being placed and accepted on the match in room numbers 106 and 110 of Sahar Hotel on Tribhuvan Road in DB Marg area, Grant Road.

Subsequently, two raids were conducted and bookies Anilkumar Ramrakheni, Suresh Khurkhuriya, Shrikant Sahu and Surendra Sahu were caught red-handed in room 106. Seven mobile phones, betting related documents and Rs1.37 lakh cash were seized from them.

"Manish Shah and Mohammad Saleem Abdul Lateef Shaikh were caught from room 110; 13 mobile phones, one laptop, betting related documents and Rs98,000 cash were seized from them. Two different cases have been registered in this regard with the DB Marg police. Further investigations are on," said an SSB officer, requesting anonymity.
