Mumbai's foodies are in for a gastronomical delight where their taste buds will transport them to France, known for it crispy baguettes and melt-in-the-mouth croque-monsieurs. Nine of the city's luxury restaurants have been selected by the French embassy to serve French food today, celebrated as Goût de France or Good France Day.

The event is being organised by the French ministry of foreign affairs and international development and 3-Michelin-starred Chef Alain Ducasse. Goût de France will be observed in 150 countries around the world. Today, restaurants and embassies will offer French dinners to the public. The event will pay homage to the vibrant and innovative cuisine, while maintaining its values of sharing, pleasure, and respect for good food and the environment. More than 1,500 chefs are expected to present their culinary skills at the finest restaurants across the globe.

Among the 150 participating countries, India has the fourth highest number of restaurants taking part, after Italy (96), Japan (61), and Brazil (55). Forty-eight restaurants in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Pondicherry and Goa made the list.

The lip-smacking meal will consist of a traditional French aperitif, a cold starter, a hot starter, fish or shellfish, meat or poultry, a French cheese (or cheeseboard), a chocolate dessert, and French wines and digestifs. The cuisine will be available in bistros and luxury restaurants, based on fresh, seasonal and
local products with lower levels of fat, sugar, salt, and protein.

During the event, an international communication plan will be made available to participating chefs in an effort to promote their dishes, and their savoir faire, all over the world with active support from French embassies.

Fabien Bonadeo, press attaché at French Consulate, Mumbai, said, "As Indian food deserves to be promoted in France, we feel that French food has to be promoted in India and the entire world. In both our countries, we attach a special importance to gastronomy. It is one of the strongest means of bringing people together. Nine restaurants in Mumbai is the largest number compare to any other cities of India to promote French food."

3-Michelin-starred Chef Alain Ducasse said, "The common point of this event is generosity, sharing, and the love of what is beautiful and tastes good. It will be a delightful interlude and an opportunity to celebrate French cuisine worldwide."

Celebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor said, "One of the most sought after dishes across the globe is French Onion Soup, but there's much more to French cuisine than that. French cuisine has been revered as one of the most refined. We should be proud that so many restaurants from Mumbai were selected to take part in this event."
