The fight between BPP chairman Dinshaw Mehta and trustee Yazdi Desai allegedly saw abuses being hurled, pencils being thrown and even a chair being lifted for the same. The two have shared a torrid relationship ever since they split on re-election of a post for which Desai wanted his wife elected.
The Bombay Parsi Punchayet (BPP) on Tuesday witnessed a slanging match between two trustees, not unlike the unruly behaviour seen in legislature or Parliament.
The fight between BPP chairman Dinshaw Mehta and trustee Yazdi Desai allegedly saw abuses being hurled, pencils being thrown and even a chair being lifted for the same. The two have shared a torrid relationship ever since they split on re-election of a post for which Desai wanted his wife elected.
On Tuesday, Desai's wife was dragged besides Mehta's and his entire family. The issue rose over canteen contractor paying Rs20,000 a month to the trust. Desai is said to have alleged he should have been paying Rs1 lakh and that the money was not coming in because of Mehta. Hence, it should be taken from him, he added.
"It was the most disgusting thing to happen. For a minute I felt, 'what the hell am I doing in this place? I just had my surgery and these guys were behaving like mawalis, using dirty language," said Muncherji Cama, another trustee and the only one willing to talk on the issue.
When asked about the brouhaha, Mehta said, "I did throw a pencil but claims of chair are false. I lost my balance and held the chair while charging at him. Even he was charging at me. In fact, they have had a problem ever since Desai's wife lost the election. They have not even returned my money and they are asking me to give something."
Desai, however, said, "No money was ever taken from Dinshaw. In fact, he has to return Rs45 lakh to the BPP. His frustration at becoming a minority and not having his way in the board is showing."
