Nearly 230 class four employees of the Bombay Parsi Punchayat (BPP) have threatened a mass casual leave on August 21 against non-payment of bonus. The union has also written a letter that states they will be observing the Parsi New Year today by consuming "masoor dal" over "chicken pulav" and other delicacies that Parsis have.

Those who will be going for a mass casual leave include Khandias, who work at the Doongerwadi, a place where the bodies of the dead are kept.

"It is unfortunate but this will be happening for the first time in the history of the Panchayat that the bonus is not being given. The bonus is roughly 40 days salary as per the 'last subsisting agreement'. The Parsi Panchayat has not even responded to when will they be giving the money. They have just said no and that they have cash crunch which is false," said Dhunji Naterwalla, general secretary of Mumbai Mazdoor Union.

Participants of the strike will not necessarily belong from the Parsi Panchayat office. "These are mostly those who work at various baugs and Doongerwadi and includes Parsis. It is unfortunate but we will have to do this," said Naterwalla.

Kersi Randeria, one of the trustees of BPP said, "They have written a sarcastic line on the way they will celebrate New Year. Dhunji is a fairly balanced person and aware of a cash problem. Fund management is looked after by the chairman. There are still five days for it." Yazdi Desai, chairperson of BPP did not respond to call and messages from DNA.
