Bombay Lawyers Association write another letter to the CJI

After failing to hear from former Chief Justice of India P. Sathasivam regarding the manner in which a Supreme Court bench headed by Justice CK Prasad had taken a matter listed before another three-judge bench and decided the matter itself, the Bombay Lawyers Association (BLA) has written a letter to the new CJI, RM Lodha, on the matter.

The SC bench of justices Prasad and Pinaki Ghose took just two minutes to decide a matter related to a Cidco plot, pending for 12 years. The bench, in January, passed suo motu orders tagging a Cidco golf course tender case to, allegedly, an unrelated criminal appeal it was hearing.

In February, the bench ruled in favour of the bidder who got 88 acres of public land at a throwaway price of Rs33 crore.

The letter written by BLA on April 28 reads: "We expected some response to our letter but unfortunately our expectations were belied. It is possible that at the end of his tenure, Chief Justice Sathasivam was hard-pressed for time and could not give the necessary attention to our request."

Earlier, the BLA had written a letter in March 14 after the issue was revealed by a senior SC counsel, Dushyant Dave, in an open letter to the CJI. The letter was signed by 100 lawyers.
