The Bombay high court on Tuesday granted bail to a 37-year-old woman who was convicted by the sessions court of killing her husband, a policeman, in 2013. She was granted bail after the defence argued that there isn't enough evidence against her to keep her behind bars.

The sessions court on October 16 had sentenced Parvati Taksalkar to six years' rigorous imprisonment.

Defence advocate Amit Munde, in his arguments, said Taksalkar is a young woman who has no one but a son. "Also, she has already spent one-and-a-half years behind bars during the time she was facing trial. As per the prosecution, she confessed to the crime before the police, however, that confession is not admissible. Also, there was only one eyewitness in the case, the couple's son. But during the trial, even he did not support the prosecution," claimed Munde, while speaking to dna.

Munde informed the court that he has filed an appeal in the Bombay high court against the sessions court's order but it will not come up for hearing soon and, hence, till that time, he pleaded, she be released on bail.
In April 2013, Taksalkar, the second wife of police officer Nandkishore, 43, had killed him with a hammer and kadappa (stone) while he was asleep at their house in Marol police camp. She had then locked the house from outside, gone to the police station and surrendered herself.
