The Bombay High Court held the release of the film and trailer of film Ram Janmabhoomi. The court also directed Youtube to pull down the trailer of the film and restrained it from being aired on all social media websites.

A division bench of Justice BP Dharmadhikari and Justice Sarang Kotwal restrained the producer Waseem Rizvi from releasing any trailer and film till the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) issues a certificate. The board informed the court that no person had approached it seeking the certificate.

"Even after sending notices to the producer, Waseem Rizvi, he was not been represented in court, accordingly, the court passed the restraining order," said Advocate Hasnain Kazi and Raeed Kazi appearing for Pune-based social activist Azhar Tamboli.

The petition, filed by Tamboli, states that he is aggrieved by the poster and trailer of the film that hurts religious sentiments. The subject of the movie is very sensitive and shows the polarisation of Hindus and Muslims, which started mainly after the Babri Masjid demolition. It also says the trailer, which was released on November 19, is highly provocative, promotes communal disharmony and violates Section 5B (principles for guidance in certifying films) of the Cinematograph Act. It will create a communal disturbance as it shows a saffron flag on the Babri Masjid which reads, 'Shri Ram', and is contemptuous to Islam in the eyes of the law, the petition says.

The plea seeks to restrain the exhibition of the film in theatres and on television as it will create a law and order situation.
