Terming the video as scandalous and interfering with administration of justice, the Bombay High Court has directed Google India to immediately pull down a video uploaded online of court proceedings by some persons recorded on a mobile phone, recently.

A division bench of Justice Abhay Oka and Justice Anuja Prabhudessai also directed the Union Government to inform next week the steps it is taking to avoid such videos being uploaded on the internet. The court
gave the direction while hearing a contempt petition filed by the Bombay Bar Association against few individuals including an advocate who uploaded the video recorded inside the court room claiming it to be a ‘sting operation’.

The court has asked the registry to issue show cause notice under contempt of courts act against those persons and posted the matter for further hearing on February 22. The petition said that the association
had obtained approval from Maharashtra advocate general Rohit Deo for initiating contempt action.

Under the Contempt of Courts Act, the permission of the advocate general is a mandatory condition if a person wants to file such a petition. The video of proceedings of a court was recorded and uploaded on Youtube. The video made unsubstantiated allegations of corruption against a judge. A fall out of the video uploaded online has been the high court issuing a notice banning use of mobile phones by litigants and general public inside court rooms.
