Interim order of the Nagpur Bench of Bombay high court has asked the transport department or all the Regional Transport Offices (RTO) to permit entry of representatives of vehicle unions.

What prompted the HC order?
This order was a result of Akola Shahar Truckers Association moving court after the January 12 circular of transport commissioner Mahesh Zagade banned touts and agents from entering RTOs, as their presence hamper efficient working of the system and also result in higher expenses for public.

A final decision on the petition is pending and is likely in the coming months.

Is transport chief's circular stayed?
"The court has not stayed the circular issued but has given an interim order on allowing union representatives inside RTOs premises, which is already being practiced by us," said a transport official.
dna on January 21 had reported about exception being made for union representatives to allowed to enter RTOs.

Agents won't be entertained
Therefore, the decision on not entertaining agents remains and in case if touts entering the RTOs, they are likely to be handed over to police for further action.
Transport Commissioner Zagade too had once visited an RTO as part of the surprise visit to check if his circular is being implemented stringently.
