The Bombay High Court has asked each ward office of the municipal corporations in the state to ensure proper implementation of rules and regulations with regards to storage and safety/sale of Firecrackers in shops at stalls.
Chandrakant Lasure activist from Nashik had moved the court seeking directions for better implementation of rules framed under the Explosive Substance Act.
A division bench of Justice VM Kanade and Justice Swapna Joshi gave the direction saying "Diwali is around the corner and proper steps should be taken to ensure the safety of citizens and prevent any untoward incident."
The court has asked the government to ensure strict compliance of the rules and if it finds any offender then consider imposing a heavy penalty. The bench has now posted the matter for further hearing next month.
