The Bombay High Court on Sunday directed the Turbhe police to produce a "missing" woman in the court, who the cops said wasn't really missing and has left her husband and two minor sons voluntarily. Last year, Santosh Suryawanshi had filed a police complaint stating that his wife Kalpana had gone missing. After the investigation, the police claimed that Kalpana left her house voluntarily. A division bench of justices Ranjit More and Rajesh Ketkar has now directed the police to produce her before the court on September 14.

In his petition filed through advocate Shekhar Bhandary, Suryawanshi said they were enjoying a healthy and cordial married life when suddenly on December 15, 2014, Kalpana went missing. He filed a complaint and police traced her in Bihar with the help of phone records.

The prosecution informed the court that a team of police officials then visited the Kishanganj district in Bihar and found that Kalpana was living with one Kadir Khan. She refused to return to Suryawanshi, and a statement to that effect has already been recorded. Advocate Bhandary, however, argued that she was coerced by Khan to register that statement.

The court then directed the police to produce Kalpana for an interview so that it could be ascertained why she left and, if possible, to suggest the case for mediation.
