Singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya's tweet was probably the most outrageous of the mountain of tweets that were uploaded post the verdict, but Twitter in general slammed Bollywood stars and politicians.

Singer Abhijeet tweeted: “Kutta rd pe soyega kutte ki maut marega, roads garib ke baap ki nahi hai I ws homles an year nvr slept on rd @BeingSalmanKhan” (If a dog sleeps on road, he will die a dog's death. Roads are not the property of the poor's father. I was homeless for a year, but never slept on roads). Understandably, he drew immense flak from all quarters.

A number of celebrities who were tweeting about the verdict were not spared the collective wrath either. Actor Rishi Kapoor who tweets from his handle @chintskap stated: “The Kapoors are with the Khans in their difficult time. Time is the biggest healer. God Bless!” This received a caustic remark from one Lipstick Junkie (@LeftOverWoman): “Yes, mutual getting drunk and beating up women society.”

The same user slammed an unverified account of Tejaswini Kolhapure (@TejuKolhapure) that introduced her as an actor. When @TejuKolhapure tweeted: “Don't you think the bakery owner should be liable in some way for keeping his staff sleeping on the road #SalmanVerdict”, @LeftOverWoman replied: “Behen where did u go and hit your head?

Some of the politicians who tweeted their support for the actor were lashed out by some prominent Twitter users, including BJP spokesperson Shaina NC and Congress leader Milind Deora.

RushdieExplainsIndia, a popular parody account that is run with the handle @rushdieexplains tore into the hypocrisy of the BJP leader. It juxtaposed two of Shaina's tweets: One where in she was 'shocked' and 'outraged' after the Moga where a girl was thrown off a bus, and today's post, where she said she expected the 'least sentence' for the actor

Juxtaposing two of her tweets which now stand deleted, @rushdieexplains posted: “I'd say this hypocrisy deserves a banner on Marine Drive.”

Deora (@milinddeora) tweeted: “India's judiciary may have spoken, but for those of us whose lives @BeingSalmanKhan has touched so deeply, his sentence is a major setback”. He too got a reply from @rushdieexplains “Ya, crushed for my buddy who crushed a few people on a footpath.”

Socialite Suheil Seth, who is known for being opinionated, was ridiculed for a post on a news website. He wrote that the media was reporting the case 'like nothing was happening in India'. To this, @rushdieexplains replied: “Or how not to offend any friends and future clients in Bollywood.”
