Boiler explosion kills 3 at RCF

Three people lost their lives while five others got injured after a boiler exploded inside the Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers (RCF) plant in Chembur on Saturday.

According to civic authorities, the blast took place at around 6.00pm when the maintenance work was being carried out inside the boiler number 2 of the plant.

"Three people died and four to five sustained injuries in the accident. The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital," a senior officer from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said. The information was corroborated by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) and spokesperson Ashok Dudhe as well.

"Preliminary information with us directed that the blast took place when a routine maintenance work was being carried out at the plant. Investigations are on to determine the exact cause of the explosion," he added.

The deceased have been identified as Dilip Pawar, Govind Kumar and Mehmud Noor Mahummad, while the injured persons were identified as Sayed Sadiq, Jayshankar Sharma, Rahul Shinde, Shashikant Dalvi and Ravindra Kamble.

The incident, comes around a month after a powerful blast that killed five and injured more than 100 at a chemical factory in the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation area of Thane district on May 26.
