The Wadala Government Railway Police (GRP) on Friday registered a case of murder against an unidentified accused after they found a body of a man on the railway tracks between Tilak Nagar and Chembur stations on Thursday night.

According to the railway police, the deceased must have been in his mid twenties. He is believed to have been murdered by someone with a rock at an isolated location of the railway shed located at about a 100-metre distance from Chembur station. The police claim that during the investigation they found blood stains from the shed to the spot where the body was dumped.

"We suspect that the man was first murdered at the railway shed and then dragged to the tracks. The body was run over by a train and this is exactly what the culprits wanted so that it looked like an accident," said Pramod Dhavre, senior police inspector of Wadala GRP.

However, the police are yet to identify the deceased. The GRP stated that the deceased is aged around 25 years. The police found Rs4,500 in his trouser pockets. The deceased has a tattoo on his arm that clearly shows two names — Ashok and Neetu.

The unidentified body was sent to Rajawadi Hospital for a post mortem. The results are awaited, said the railway police.
