BMC woman officer fakes acid attack

A BMC officer, who claimed to be a victim of acid attack and robbed of gold ring worth Rs10,000, had lied to cops. The Thane Nagar police have file 'B' Summary and the case has now reached the court.

After filing a case on August 27, 2015, she later told the cops not to investigate it.

On Augus 24, Hemangi Malegaonkar, 54, a resident of Chedani Koliwada was travelling in a TMT bus when her co-commuter allegedly threw acid on her finger.

Additional inspector, Shraddha Waydande, said, "We were shocked when she told us that she did not realise there was acid in the bottle. During investigation, she and her husband were rude to us."

She added, "We asked her to handover the clothes she wore on the day of the incident for blood test, but she said she had washed them."

An official said, "We suspect she faked the case for Manodhairya scheme, where acid attack victims get compensation of around Rs1 lakh."
