The BMC has decided to take up the work of at least three bridges and one road-overbridge (ROB) during this financial year. The work on these bridges was stalled due to court cases owing to different reasons. However, the civic body has received a court order to start the work. These include the bridge across Mithi River in Dharavi, the bridge near Amarnath Tower building, Hancock Bridge and approaches of proposed road ROB at Vikhroli Railway station.

The civic standing committee cleared the proposal for construction of Hancock Bridge on Wednesday. More than two years after it was dismantled, the BMC will take up the work in a fortnight. The High Court set a deadline of 19 months in which the construction is likely to be completed and will cost around Rs 51 crore.

Widening and reconstruction of the bridge across Mithi River in Dharavi near Drive-In Theater under the H/ East ward will also be started. It will be completed at a cost of Rs 31 crore. A senior official from the BMC's bridge department said that the high court had given the go-ahead to cut mangroves for the work.

To provide smooth flow of traffic between Yari Road and Lokhandwala Complex, the work of a bridge between Janki Devi School and Amarnath Tower will also be taken up. Similarly, the work of the proposed road ROB at Vikhroli Railway station will also be taken up.
