The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to create a housing stock for Project-Affected Persons (PAPs) across all its administrative wards in the city. As part of this plan, the civic body has floated a tender for constructing a total of 550 houses in Borivli’s Shimpoli area.

The BMC finds it difficult to get land for its several infrastructure projects, as rehabilitation of affected families takes time. As several families from the western suburb do not want to shift to the eastern suburbs, and vice-versa, the civic body has decided to create a housing stock in each ward separately.

The ward officers of all 24 wards have already been asked to find out vacant land in their respective areas, where housing stock can be created to rehabilitate PAPs. A senior civic official said that the housing stock will be created as soon as the civic body gets land in wards.

“This is going to be an ongoing process for the civic body,” said the official. The civic body has floated the tender for constructing 550 houses on the said land in Borivli
