On Tuesday, another injured dolphin was found at Juhu beach. It was discovered by Dhruvraj Bharti (17), who contacted several animal rights organisations to no avail. Despite calling over 20 organisations, there was no response. Finally BMC responded.

The incident took place in the evening at 6.45 pm when Bharti spied the body of the injured dolphin, "I found it on the beach in front of Godrej house. It was alive, though badly injured. Its lungs must have been damaged as its breathing was strenuous and the heavy stench of blood hung in the air. I ran back to my house and tried to contact nearly 20 animal rescue groups, with my friend Aashumi Shah, but the only one to respond was BMC. Unfortunately, by that time the dolphin had died a cruel death,".

PAWS denied receiving any call; secretary and in-charge of the helpline Sunil Subramanium said, "I was on duty yesterday and I did not receive any such call yesterday."

Anil Pachpute of Trimurti Pet Animal Ambulance Service said, "I did receive such a call but we do not transport fish, so I couldn't help that boy. I told him to contact BMC and they would help him out."

However, for Bharti, BMC's prompt reaction has increased his faith in the government, "I received great help from BMC. My call promptly answered and immediate action was taken. BMC team kept updating me till midnight and promised to inform me the time and cause of death. I urge every citizen to question the actions of firms which conveniently disappeared during times of need."

The number of dead dolphins is a great cause of worry. A recent report by the Akhil Maharashtra Macchimar Kriti Samiti revealed that 32 dolphins have been found dead along the coast from Mumbai to Dahanu. They allege that a recent seismic survey conducted by the ONGC is responsible for these deaths.
