Potholes started to develop just one and a half months after the construction of a new road in Khar (West). Residents alleged that the road's construction was completed in a hurry as the monsoon was approaching. The new road was constructed by removing around 200 metres of a paver blocks road which was in a good condition.

The 10th road in Khar (West), under H West ward of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), was constructed between May 27 and 31, hardly a week before the normal arrival of monsoon in the city. Residents had opposed the road's construction as the monsoon was hardly a week away and they were apprehensive that the road might not be completed in time. However, the civic official assured them that the road work would be completed within five days as they had been using the latest technology.

Zoru Bhathena, a resident and activist of Khar (West) said, "There was no need to construct a new road as the old paver blocks road was in a good condition." He added that the shoddy construction was carried out with vested interests to repair the road next year again.

Another resident alleged that if a pothole can appear in just 45 days after a couple of heavy showers, more can be expected as there are almost two months of monsoon ahead.

Bhathena also alleged that Alka Kerkar, the local corporator, was present when the work began. However, Kerkar said that the area does not fall under her ward number 98.

Sharad Ughade, assistant municipal commissioner of H west ward said, "One localised pothole appeared and it was filled immediately." He added, "We will carry out an enquiry to know the exact reason as to why the small pothole developed. If there is any fault on the part of the contractor, he will be penalised."
