52 restaurants faced demolition of the illegally developed portions while nine restaurants were sealed for illegalities on Friday

BMC's action against the hotels and restaurants continued on Friday with 397 inspections. Of 397, 52 restaurants faced demolition of the illegally developed portions while nine restaurants were sealed for illegalities. 197 illegally stored cylinders were also seized.
The BMC started its stringent actions against hotels, restaurants, bars and pubs after the fire in 1Above and Mojo- the rooftop restaurants in Kamala Mills Compound on December 29. 14 people died in the fire as the restaurants lacked fire safety and had illegal developments.
Since then the BMC began its mass drive against commercial structures. In its mass drive, BMC has inspected 2,856 places, 913 faced demolition action and 55 places were sealed till now and 1,410 cylinders were seized.
BMC has formed 52 teams across 24 civic wards for this massive drive.
