A stall selling vada pav and kombadi vade, set up by MLA Nitesh Rane's Swabhiman Sanghatana activists near the open-air fitness station on Marine Drive, was seized by Mumbai police and the BMC on Wednesday. On Wednesday, Swabhiman activists had set up the stall as a way of protesting against the open-air fitness station, which they term illegal.

Nitesh Rane tweeted that he was unfazed by the BMC and police action against the stall, as his real purpose, of showing the "double face" of the Sena-led BMC, was served. "No problem if BMC wants to take action against our stalls... my real motive of exposing the double face Sena led BMC is getting served! Thanks," tweeted Rane.

The open-air fitness station, against which Swabhiman is protesting, was initially set up without BMC permissions, and the civic body had regularised it within days of its establishment. The fitness station had been inaugurated by Yuva Sena chief Aaditya Thackeray.

Swabhiman's stall was set up about 25 m away from the fitness station. Mumbai police and BMC took action against the stall and seized it around 3 pm on Wednesday.

The fitness station has been wrapped in controversies- Sena leaders have claimed that it had sought permissions before it opened, but Dino Morea's company DM Fitness Pvt Ltd did not have formal permissions from the C ward. Yet, on Monday evening, Municipal Commissioner Ajoy Mehta had directed the Assistant Commissioner of C ward to issue the permissions and regularise the gym. "Though the MC had approved the gym, the decision was not conveyed to the C ward, hence all the confusion," said a civic official.
