After blacklisting the contractor for negligence in auditing the Himalaya bridge, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is ready with the proposal of repairing 16 bridges in the South Mumbai on the basis of the audit report made by the same contractor. The BMC is in the process of repairing bridges across the city. According to the new proposal which will be tabled on Standing Committee meeting on Wednesday, the BMC is going to award a contract for repairing 16 bridges.

"Either BMC administrative officers are a fool or they are making us fools. How could they even think of awarding a contract on the basis of the audit which has done by the blacklisted contractor? We will oppose the proposal," said Ravi Raja, Leader of Opposition in the civic body.

Bridges that has made it to the list that requires repairs include Grant road railway bridge, Opera house bridge, French bridge, Haji Ali subway, Diana bridge, Princes-street foot overbridge (FOB), Churchgate north and south subway, CST subway, Gloria church flyover, Sitaram Selam Y bridge flyover, Eastern freeway, SVP road bridge, YM flyover, Sir P D'melo FOB, Dockyard road FOB. The cost of repairing has been estimated at Rs 13.40 crore.

The civic body already has given the order to repair bridges across the city while re-inspection of bridges is going on in Eastern and Western suburbs. The civic body has started demolition of 11 bridges on the basis of the old audit report to avoid delay in repair works.
