BMC razes illegal structures at Raghuvanshi Mill

Following the Kamala Mills fire tragedy on 29 th December BMC started taking action on illegal construction which became fire trap.

In a stern action, BMC has demolished more than 20 thousand sq feet area of seven structures that had illegal constructions in Raghuvanshi mill compound. After Kamla mills tragedy civic body found out unauthorised extension in mill land and sent notices to owners but they reached out to the court for a stay. As the court lifted the stay on Monday, BMC immediately swung into the action and razed the unathorised areas.

There were several illegal construction in 7.2 acre of Raghuvanshi mill land. We sent them notices, however the concerned parties got a stay on the demolistion from the court, said Devendra Kumar Jain, assistant municipal commissioner of G south ward. Various showrooms and commercial offices grabbed the area unauthorisely. As the court lifted the stay we decided to crack down on them and started immidiate action, added bmc official.

BMC assistant municipal commissioner of G south ward Devendra Kumar Jain said that as the structures were illegal, notices had been sent to them. However, the concerned parties reached the court owing to which no action could be taken. "These included commercial offices as well as showrooms of recliners and bathroom fittings and some unauthorised sheds as well. Finally, after the stay was lifted, we decided to crack down on them," he said.

The seven structures which faced the action were The Little Nap, Durgawati Jaiswar, 99 Pancake, Everlast, Natuzee, Natuzee office and Babulal Bohra. These all structures were of one to three floors. Durgawati and Natuzee combined had more than 13500 area on which BMC took action. The demolition was led by Devendra Jain.

The internal prob committee found more illegalities in neibouring Raghuvanshi mills. As per the report, The unathourised area is almost 50 percent more than the sanctioned area. BMC started taking action but it stopped due to legal process in May. Now High court rejected there plea to extended it further so civic body take stern action against them. There will be more demolitions over next few days, BMC source told.
