Ahead of BMC elections to be held on February 21, the Marathi Abhyas Kendra, an NGO has published a progress report of 17 corporators from year 2012 to 2016 in Mumbai. The report book named ‘My Ward-My Corporator’ includes work done by the corporator in his/her particular ward, but analysis is done by the citizens rather than any political parties.
Ahead of BMC elections to be held on February 21, the Marathi Abhyas Kendra, an NGO has published a progress report of 17 corporators from year 2012 to 2016 in Mumbai. The report book named ‘My Ward-My Corporator’ includes work done by the corporator in his/her particular ward, but analysis is done by the citizens rather than any political parties.
The volunteers gathered data by filing RTI’s and through BMC website.
The progress report of the corporator includes his/her attendance in meetings, ward’s major issues, the fund the corporator received in four years, the utilisation of funds, favourtism by the corporators towards contractors for awarding major projects.
Deepak Pawar, Chief of the NGO who is also a professor of political science headed the team to prepare the report cards. The Marathi Abhyas Kendra proposes that, the citizens should speak up for their issues and should actively participate in the social activities of his/her wards they reside. The progress report of the corporators will be submitted to the ward officers and also to the contesting candidates for the upcoming civic polls.
