The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has proposed a flyover from Saat Rasta to Mahalaxmi Race Course which will benefit the motorists going towards Haji Ali. The 200m flyover will save motorists from the traffic at Mahalaxmi and allow free access to Haji Ali road. "The final drawings are yet to be approved by the Western Railway, however, the flyover is expected to be completed in two years", said BMC's Chief Engineer of Bridges, SO Kori.

Kori also said, "Presently, motorists going towards Hali Ali needs to take a long route from Mahalaxmi and also get stuck in the traffic. It takes on average 15 minutes to cross the distance, however, after the flyover is complete the motorists can cross the distance in 3 minutes".

"As the flyover passes above the Mahalaxmi railway station and part of Mumbai Central, the final drawings of the flyover is yet to be approved by the western railway. The western railway officers have pointed out some changes in the initial drawings of the flyover, and we are submitting the final drawings in 15 days which is expected to be approved", Kori added.

Apart from Mahalaxmi flyover, the Bridges department is also working on the Ghatkopar Mankhurd Link road (GMLR) flyover of which construction work is already started. Since the eastern freeway has started, the vehicles coming from south mumbai and going towards Ghatkopar and Vashi create huge traffic on GMLR. After the flyover, the vehicles from eastern suburbs going towards Navi Mumbai will have free access through the flyover without getting obstructed with vehicles going and coming from south mumbai.
