Which areas have been marked as free of hawkers?
The ward-level committee appointed by the BMC has left out several prominent roads across the ward from the hawking-zones list, primarily because they are home to many top ministers, bureaucrats and industrialists. Being VIP roads, most of them have been proposed to be marked non-hawking zones.

Sources said Napeansea, Walkeshwar, Hughes, Carmichael and Altamount Roads will be kept completely free of vendors. The prominent residents of these areas include chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, state cabinet ministers, municipal commissioner Sitaram Kunte, industrialist Mukesh Ambani and some top bureaucrats.

How many hawking pitches have been chalked out in the ward?
Only 50 roads have been marked as hawking zones out of 250 roads across the ward. A total of 3,762 hawking pitches have been marked, though most of them have been proposed in Tardeo and Grant Road, which have been occupied by hawkers for ages. The BMC's report has proposed 196 no-hawking zones.

Most hawking zones have been proposed on Maulana Shaukat Ali Marg and Madan Mohan Malaviya Marg, as well as Sane Guruji Marg in Mumbai Central.

Have vegetable vendors got any spots?
Ten spots for vegetable vendors have been marked opposite Priyadarshini Park, along with some hawking zones on a stretch of Bhulabhai Desai Road near the Indian Overseas Bank.

What do officials and residents have to say?
"We have not proposed any new hawking zones. Those placed at Napeansea Road have been there for a long time," said a senior civic official.

Residents of the ward are cheering the BMC's decision. "It's a good thing that no new hawking zones have been proposed in the residential areas. We hope the BMC doesn't alter the plans later," said Indrani Malkani, a civic activist.

Devidas Kshirsagar, assistant municipal commissioner of D ward, said the list is a rough proposal still in the planning stage. He refused to divulge further details.

In contrast, how about Bandra?
dna recently reported about the hawking zone demarcation in Bandra (West) where several roads, such as 15throad, Manuel Gonsalves Road and St John Baptista Road, which were never traditional hawking zones have been proposed as hawking zones.
