After a successful round of bidding for a multi-storey public parking lot (PPL) in Nahur, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has invited tenders to appoint contractors for 11 more PPLs across the city. The civic body has a total of 18 PPLs, and tenders for the remaining six parking lots will be invited soon.

Meanwhile, the Roads and Traffic department of the BMC has also received administrative approval for implementation of the BMC's new parking policy for the 91 on-street parking lots in the city.

Following the nod from Additional Municipal Commissioner Sanjay Deshmukh earlier this week, the Roads and Traffic department can now invite tenders for appointing contractors to operate, maintain and manage these 91 on-street parking lots. "We are preparing the tenders for all 91 lots, and these tenders will be floated in 10 days," a civic official told DNA.

DNA had reported earlier that the PPL at Runwal Greens Complex in Nahur, with a capacity of 1,552 vehicles, will be operational this month. The BMC is confident that the other 17 PPLs will be operational by July-end, while the on-street parking will be operational by August end.

The 18 PPLs will accommodate 11,516 vehicles, which include 512 two-wheelers, 10,224 four-wheelers and 380 trucks. All the PPLs and on-street parking plots will be operated under the new parking policy which entails hiked parking charges.

Some of the PPLs where tenders are invited to operate, maintain and manage are at a Kalpataru project in Parel (capacity of 1,065 vehicles), Lodha project in Goregaon (1,023 vehicles), and in a Runwal project in Mulund West (510 vehicles) among others.
