The Antop Hill police have arrested a driver of a garbage truck of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for allegedly mowing down a 52-year-old man on Monday morning at Antop Hill. The man, identified as A Naiker, died on the spot, said police. The accused has been identified as Ajit Yadav (30).

According to the police, the incident took place near Panchawati bakery at Sion-Koliwada, when Naiker was crossing the road. "The driver rammed into Naiker from the front," said Appa Gosavi, Police Inspector.

Naiker was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead. The police said Naikar was crushed under the wheels.

Naiker's family members have alleged that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. "Around 9.30 am, he had left the house saying he would go out to have a cup of tea. When he was returning, the driver mowed him down. The driver should have stepped on the brakes," said Naikar's daughter Chitra.
