The BJP has made big gains in the western suburbs, especially north Mumbai. Although a BJP bastion, the Gujarati, Marwadi, Jain and North Indian communities left nothing to chance by helping the saffron party secure victories across various wards. The BJP has also managed to secure votes from the Marathi-speaking voters from the educated upper class and upper middle class.

It seems like the BJP's decision to go at it alone struck the right chord with its voter base. The BJP's promise of development seems to have also persuaded western suburb residents to vote for the party — between Bandra and Dahisar, the saffron party has gained 54 seats. In the 2012 civic polls, BJP had 12 corporators from Borivli, Kandivli and Malad. The number has increased to 24 (of a total of 42 seats) in 2017. A number of BJP MPs and MLAs in these areas have attributed the victory to the party's decision to contest civic elections alone. This apart, about eight of the winning candidates were new faces. Leena Patil Deherkar of Kandivli (W) — ward number 30 — won by a margin of 15,000 votes, Priyanka More of Kandivli (W) — ward number 22 — won by a margin of 10,200 votes. The other new faces from the saffron party who won are Rajeshri Patel from Borivli (East), Sejal Desai from Malad, Anjali Khedkar from Borivli (East), Jagdish Oza from Dahisar (East) and Harish Chheda from Borivli (West) — ward number 8.

"All our candidates have won by a good majority. Even some of the new faces won by significant margins. Citizens have once against put their trust in Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis's vision for development," said Yogesh Sagar, BJP MLA from Kandivli Charkop.
